President’s Message April 4, 2016:
Well the first quarter of the year is in the books and we have lots to talk about.
January started off with the return of the chapter gala so generously hosted by our friends at Belle Haven CC. The event featured dishes from chapter members Francesco Ughetto, Ryan Spicknell, Mark Henry, Don Shaw, and Ted Pary. We also had some nice donations from Under the Olive Tree, Diet-to-Go, DC Brau and Green Hat Gin.
In February, Chef Ryan Spicknell and his team at Earl’s Kitchen and Bar opened their doors for a terrific meat fabrication demo sponsored byCreekstone Farms and Fell’s Point Meat. Chefs were able to participate as primal cuts of beef were broken down in the 1 hour demo.
March was a big month as Adams-Burch once again graciously hosted the chapter meeting at their infamous Great Ideas Show at FedEx Field. Chapter members and guests toured the show floor offering dozens of equipment and non-food items. At the Chef Connect Series in Atlanta, our chapter won the coveted NE Regional Chapter of the Year award and will compete with the three other regions for National Chapter of the Year in Arizona this summer. Tim Recher, CEC, also cleaned up winning the NE Region Dr. L.J. Minor Chef Professionalism Award, the ACF Region Cutting Edge Award and the ACF Region Achievement of Excellence Award for all his efforts running the kitchen at Army-Navy Country Club. Congratulations Tim!!!
Finally, we have a couple of fun events happening in April. First, the Mason Dixon Master Chef Competition is taking applications through April for competing chefs. If interested, contact Chef Eric Yeager at chefeyeager@gmail.com or visit the event website at www.masondixonmasterchef.com. Also in April Sara Hill from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will present a 1-hour cheese and beer pairing at Atlas Brew Works Monday, April 18, 2016 from 5-8pm. The ticket price will include the tasting, 2 drink tickets and some great street food. Please try to attend as all proceeds help sponsor our trip to the ACF Chef Connect national meeting. This is open to chapter members AND foodies alike so bring your friends for this fun evening.
